What Are The Benefits Of Business Telephone Service?

Business telephone service has been around for many years, both as "on premise" and "off premise" solutions. Today's systems however are far more danced then even just five years ago. The reason why this is the case is because technology has really made a significant impact in the cost and availability of these types of solutions.

Some of the advances in technology that have evolved include the ubiquitousness of the Internet. This fact coupled with the stability of the Internet makes today's telephone systems for businesses inexpensive and easy to operate.

For example, the old business telephone systems, sometimes referred to as "PBXs" were very expensive solutions that required lots of hardware. Not only had that but the "on premise" phone systems required tons of wiring as well. Making matters worse, the telephone companies also charged businesses a monthly fee for the use of the service, making phone calls, and also maintaining and supporting the actual hardware. Furthermore, it often required a contractor to install everything at your location.

The Cloud-Based Business Telephone Service

Cloud computing stack showing infrastructure, ...Image via WikipediaWhat has evolved in the last several years is the concept of "cloud-based" services and cheap Internet connections. A cloud-based service basically means that the service is provided to the business just like a "utility." This is similar to how electricity is provided to your home or your office. You do not have to worry about where it is coming from or maintaining it because the service provider maintains the whole infrastructure for you and then charges you a per month fee.

The advent of cheap Internet connections allows businesses to now get their business telephone service inexpensively because the telephone calls run over the same lines as the Internet access. This is often called voice over Internet protocol or VOIP for short. The wonderful thing about these new services is that there really is no hardware to install. And, maintenance costs essentially drop down to practically nothing because the service provider is maintaining all of the hardware at their location. All of this is provided to the business for one low monthly fee, including an 800 number and fax number, if you wish.
